The Poll Dorset & Dorset Horn May Sheep Fair held at Exeter Livestock Centre attracted an increased entry with 2711 sheep entered. Many congratulations to all prize winners with the top call of the day being 6000gns.for a Ram Lamb (Lot 13) entered by, C & T Clarke of Colebrooke,Crediton who had won the best pen of Ram Lambs selling to average £1955.10. Their Ram Lamb “Manorcroft Protector “ sold to Ross Sizmur of the Rossiz flock. Mr Tom Wright of Ballymoney, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland sold the next top price Ram Lambs at 4800gns. (Lot 122) and 3200gns. (Lot 128) and another at 2000gns (Lot 129) with his pen of seven averaging £1818. Messrs W & K Carson of Ballymena, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland sold their Ram Lamb at 2400gns. (Lot 167). Top price Registered Female, a shearling ewe (Lot 181) was 800gns. from Messrs Fook Bros. with the top price Registered Ewe Lamb (Lot 180) selling at 520gns. from Mr David Rossiter. The best Horned Ram exhibit was won by Messrs Fook Bros as was the Champion Male which was the Group of three Ram Lambs

A wonderful entry of 2519 Females sold to a very near 100% clearance. Overall averages were all well up on last year with buyers present from all over the British Isles. Top price was £300 for 2 pens of Hoggets from Messrs Fooks Bros of Bridport. Ewe Lambs sold to £295 for a quality consignment from Mr R Sizmur of Okehampton. The Champion pen sold for £250 for Mr M Hayman of Sidmouth, being Ewe Lambs. Unregistered Females sold to £245 for Mr I R Prouse of Holsworthy. Older ewes met a very strong trade topping at £198 for Messrs R & DE Franks of Sidmouth. There was no shortage of demand for the Crossbred section with prices selling to £165 for Mr J Brice of Tiverton.
