POLL DORSETS SELL TO 1900GNS
The Dorset Horn & Poll Dorset Sheep Society’s Annual Show & Sale at Worcester again recorded a resounding success with both females and quality rams in strong demand.
Top call of the day went to “Manor Croft Untouchable” a shearling ram from Tom Clarke’s Devon based flock having won 1st and Champion in the preceding show and having 4 Breed Championships as a lamb. The successful purchaser was Mr William Bradley of Home Farm, Dulas, Hereford at 1900gns.
The Wilsey flock of W.L. French also enjoyed a successful day with 3 Shearling Rams all finding favour with purchasers selling to 620gns for a third prize winner being taken by T. Jones, Ystrad Meurig, Ceredigion, and 580gns for a Second prize winner to T.D. Downes, Tregaron, Ceredigion.
Top in the ram lamb section went to David Rossiter’s third prize winner, Huish W8252 at 560gns to G. Jones, Ystrad Meurig, Ceredigion.
Females were the feature of the sale and enjoyed keen and spirited bidding throughout. A top price of 640gns went to the First and Reserve Champion in the show, an in lamb shearling carrying twins from long time supporters of the sale Richard and Robert Hole, Dorset and secured by D. Beeby, Alderley, Cheshire. The same purchaser took the third prize winner in the same class from David Rossiter’s Huish flock at 550gns. The “Huish” prefix enjoyed a close following and sold a fourth prize winning shearling at 490gns to C.A. Hallet, Dorchester, Dorset.
W.L. French made a worthwhile long trip from Cornwall with a strong entry of shearling ewes topping at a creditable 520gns for a second prize winner to C Whiting, Bristol.
Ewe lambs enjoyed some spirited bidding with a top of 460gns twice from T Clarke’s Manor Croft flock for the first prize winner to RJ Ryan, Conwy, N. Wales and also for the second prize winner from R & R Hole’s Sherborne flock to C.A. Hallet, Dorchester, Dorset.
